[At my instigation, Karen Kimple has written this guest post about a great team victory that includes Connor's younger brother, Carson.]
Although this isn’t directly related to the Braves, I thought I would share some good baseball news with you. This past weekend the Jr. Dukes Baseball U-10 Team won the Cudahy Baseball Tournament and became the first Jr. Dukes Baseball team to win a tournament! The team includes Connor’s younger brother, Carson, and is coached by Darren Miller.
The team won their first game on Saturday morning by beating the New Berlin Magic 7-0. Scattered showers interrupted their Saturday afternoon game against Southwest. The Jr. Dukes were ahead by quite a margin when the skies really opened up and the umps decided to finish that game on Sunday.
Early on Sunday afternoon, the team resumed the game and beat Southwest to advance to their next game. I can’t remember which team they played, but this was a very close game which resulted in a 1-1 tie (Carson scored the only run). They had to play a California Rules tiebreaker. The Jr. Dukes smacked in a number of runs to win the tiebreaker and advance to the championship game.
The championship game against New Berlin Magic was a real nail biter, with our team down by something like 5 runs in the 3rd inning but the team rallied. They believed - they made plays, they got hits, and they really supported each other as a team. It came down to a 6-6 tie in the 5th inning. One of Carson's teammates hit a single that allowed the runner on 3rd to run home and score the go-ahead run. It couldn’t have been any more exciting and we delighted that our boys were able to bring home trophies!

Majors Playoffs: The Latest Info
Everyone,
It seems as if the schedule for the post-season tournament is set, so I'm attaching it. If I hear of any changes, I will let you know pronto. The Braves will be seeded fourth, and thus will play in Game 3 at 4 p.m. Tuesday. Where we go from there will depend on whether we win or lose games.
I append some comments from Majors commissioner Darren Miller.

Coaches,
I've received comments from most of you (enough of you) that I'm near final with our playoff schedule. Here's where we're at:
* I've been able to structure the schedule so that the only back-to-back games will be on Sat/Sun July 11/12. Everyone left in the tournament at that time will play back-to-back.
* I understand the U12 All Stars will begin play during the second week of the tournament. I can't jam the tournament into the weekend for 130 kids to accommodate the handful of U12 kids that will still be in our tournament and playing All Stars (there will be 4 teams at that point). We'll work around All Star tournament times the best we can.
* All games will be played out to 6 innings - no time limit on games
* In the event the teams are tied after 6 innings, we will continue to play extra innings until a team wins (no California rule)
* You voted to have the mercy rule - if a team is up by 10 runs after 4 innings (3.5 if the home team is up), the game will be called
* If a game is suspended due to rain before the completion of the 4th inning: mark exactly where the game is (count, base runners, etc.) and we will resume the game the next day
* If a game is suspended due to rain after the 4th inning: if a team was ahead at the last completed inning, that team will be declared the winner of that game. If the teams are tied, mark exactly where the game is (count, base runners, etc.) and the game will be resumed the next day.
* If a game is suspended due to darkness, it will be resumed the next day. I could see this happening during the week with extra inning games.
* Pitch count carries over from the regular season and is the same throughout the playoffs
* The games during the second week are still in a bit of flux. I have the championship game(s) Saturday morning. If the undefeated team loses that game, they'll turn around and play another one. This could potentially take all morning, and may work out better for a second game on Sunday or Monday, but I also understand that people have other commitments starting July 19th.
* Final seeding won't be done until Friday this week (seeds 2-9 are still in flux)
Also, be aware of your conduct with the umps as we transition into the playoffs. The higher level of competition will make the games more intense. We'll have what we consider to be the better umps on the field for these games, but there will be close calls that don't go your way.
There is great competition in the Majors right now. Should be a great tournament!

Practice updates, makeup game discussion
Braves,
(1) Practice as usual Friday (May 1) from 4 to 5:30 p.m. The weather forecast looks fine. If the high-school softball field is in use we will practice at Cumberland (not at Cahill). It will be good for the guys to have one more practice before our game Saturday.
(2) From now at least until the end of May we will have practices every Friday and Sunday from 4 to 5:30 p.m., with days off on Sunday May 10 (Mothers Day), Friday May 22 (beginning of holiday weekend), and Sunday May 24 (holiday weekend). Our preference is always to practice at the softball field on the high-school grounds, with Cahill and Cumberland being backup locations if the high-school field is in use.
(3) Scratch the May 22 make-up game possibility. Too many of our guys will be out of town.
(4) Right now we have two games to make up (Phillies and White Sox). Because the Majors field is so tightly scheduled (lots of Minors games are being played there), there are very few available game slots. I have suggested to the Majors commish that the first two Tuesdays in June (June 2 and 9) at 4:30 p.m. would be times when we probably could field a team. If players have conflicts with those days, I hope five weeks' notice would enable us to minimize them. Games at 4:30 p.m. cause lots of problems for adult fans and coaches, but the most important thing is to get the games in so that the kids can play.
The Majors schedule is a mess, obviously. The coaches of the teams and Majors commissioner Darren Miller are working hard to find times when we can get postponed games played.
Thanks for bearing with us in this less-than-ideal situation.
